Artist Biography
Caroline Garrett lives and works in coastal Connecticut, where she has spent most of her life. Growing up in suburbs adjacent to the affluent town of Mystic, she was exposed to a specific dynamic of living - one where women fulfill their roles of emotionally regulating those around them and occupying their mind with obsession over diet and appearances. Observations made during her indoctrination into this way of life eventually led Caroline to question this mindset and pursue a way out. She noted that there is exhaustion and rage inherent in every woman’s existence, and sought to investigate how those feelings interact and coexist.
Even in her pieces which place the natural world (landscapes or objects within a landscape) as the subject, Caroline captures the perspective of a woman - one who looks closely, questions, and interacts with what surrounds her, whether that be social constructs or seemingly simple trees. It is all connected in a tapestry of female experience.
Caroline has her BA in Creative Arts from Siena University, where she founded and presided over the Visual Arts Club, and studied abroad at the Centre d’Etudes Franco-Americain de Management (CEFAM) in Lyon, France University of the Arts in London, and Universite Laval in Quebec, Canada. She remains involved with the arts community as a member of the Westerly Alternative Artists Guild, and exhibits locally in Connecticut.
